About John

Since entering private practice in 1993, John Rogala Evanoff’s practice has focused almost exclusively on family law cases. Mr. Evanoff has represented clients in a variety of divorce, support, custody, relocation, and protection from abuse matters. He obtained his undergraduate degree and juris doctor from the University of Pittsburgh, earning his bachelor’s degree in 1988 and graduating the University of Pittsburgh, School of Law, in 1991. Upon graduation, Mr. Evanoff spent two years serving as the judicial law clerk to the Honorable Lawrence J. Brenner from Allentown, Pennsylvania (Lehigh County). He was Judge Brenner’s first law clerk and served in that position for two years. After that, he entered private practice at the law offices of Edward J. Zamborsky. While there, Mr. Evanoff represented clients in an extensive family law practice, litigating highly complex financial, economic, and custody claims. Eventually, the firm was renamed Zamborsky & Evanoff, when Mr. Evanoff was awarded a partnership.

In 2001, an opportunity arose to move back to his hometown, Erie, Pennsylvania, and Mr. Evanoff joined Carney & Good, as a partner. Like he did in Lehigh County, Mr. Evanoff devotes approximately 95% of his practice to family law matters. In addition to Erie County, he practices in Crawford, Mercer, Warren, and McKean Counties. Mr. Evanoff regularly lectures on family law matters. He has presented seminars to local bar associations and spoken at state-wide family law conferences. Topics have included Family Law 101, forensic accounting, custody procedure and practice, custody relocation, child and spousal support, as well as divorce practice and procedure. He has served as the chair of the Erie County Family Law Committee on three occasions.

For the past several years, Mr. Evanoff has served in the Pennsylvania House of Delegates. At the age of 37, Mr. Evanoff began the study of karate. Since then, he has been a four-time Pennsylvania fighting champion and has took fourth place nationally, in 2008. In 2009, Mr. Evanoff was awarded his black belt by King Cobra Karate. Mr. Evanoff is one of the owners of the Pennsylvania Karate Commission-Region 4. This organization promotes and sanctions karate tournaments in Pennsylvania, New York, and Canada. Today, Mr. Evanoff continues his study of karate and also trains in boxing and aiki-jutso.
